Following it’s success in Industrial spray nozzles, Lionstar looked to diversify and use its expertise in other areas. One of the primary areas being Aerosols. Technology in the aerosol industry has remained fairly static for the past 50 years. The basic concept of how an aerosol operates has stayed the same. Here at Lionstar we decided to challenge that concept to see if we could make radical improvements.

Initially the pressures facing the aerosol industry were examined with certain conclusions being drawn.

Public perception showed environmental concerns, including such items as VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) and inhaleable particles. Costs have always been a concern to the industry, and perhaps most important the lack of innovation.

Lionstar set up the following criteria to bring about radical change:

Spray Improvement.

Spray improvement can be different for a variety of market products. With such a large area now to work within to manipulate the spray clients are now in the position where they can stipulate what average droplet size and flow rate they would prefer and this can be achieved. Lionstar technology can dramatically improve upon these criteria.

An example anti-perspirant using Lionstar technology resulted in a marked reduction in respirables compared to 'standard' technology. A significant reduction in inhaleable microns was also achieved along with an overall reduction in the percentage discharge throughout the whole can.

With much work having been undertaken on areas such as reduction of VOC’s , Lionstar can make the claim that its technology shows significant ecological advantages over current technology.

This coupled to the work on lower pressures, less demanding chemistry and the development of standard based technology with compressed gas shows Lionstar as one of the market leaders in environmental packaging.

User Friendly:

No system is useful if it is too complicated to operate. With the Lionstar system the caps, once locked in position look and feel no different to products currently available in the market. Coupled to this there are many advantages such as:

Reduction in Post spraying – In effect removing the problem of the contents dribbling down the outside of the can.

No Self Actuation – A lock can be incorporated to lessen the need of an overcap.

Full Contents Used – Many cans block and the full content is not always discharged – the Lionstar system can overcome that.

Aesthetically Pleasing – With the pressure for shelf space all current designs can incorporate Lionstar technology from a button actuator up to a 65mm.

Able to be Used with Other Materials – The use of such items as soft touch material can be incorporated.

With companies fighting for shelf space in the Supermarkets and aesthetically pleasing design coupled with Lionstar technology on display racks, it is reassuring to know that Lionstar technology can be inserted into almost any design.

The above was achieved by re-inventing the aerosol and adopting the unique idea of splitting the cap. This then allowed for a large area to manipulate the spray by using a unique combination of swirl chambers, expansion chambers, throttles and pre-throttles to name but a few. By making this into an insert in the mould a number of changes can easily be made depending on performance of spray required.

The main essence of Lionstars work is to develop practical, innovative products that are effectively at no cost but offer a host of advantages. It is not difficult to solve issues if cost is not a consideration. The key is to offer solutions at equal or reduced cost.
